The Sentence: “Then Tell Him”
The hadith this whole page is built onA man was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when another man walked past. The seated man watched him go and said, quietly, the kind of thing men usually keep to themselves: "O Messenger of Allah, I love this man." The Prophet ﷺ did not smile and move on. He asked one question: "Have you told him?" The man said no. Of course no — who says such things? And the Prophet ﷺ said: "Then tell him." So the man got up, caught up with him on the road, and said the sentence to his face: inni uhibbuka fillah — I love you for the sake of Allah. And the man gave him back the reply that has been passed down with the story ever since: "May He for Whose sake you love me — love you."
The sentence: «إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ فِي اللهِ» — inni uhibbuka fillah. The reply: «أَحَبَّكَ الَّذِي أَحَبَبْتَنِي لَهُ» — may He for Whose sake you love me, love you. Learn both. Use both this week.
