Three hours from DXB is a country of turquoise domes, bullet trains and the best rice dish on earth. This is the plan I would hand a friend: visa rules by passport, exact train numbers, where to sleep, what to eat and what to skip, in the order you will actually do it.
Day 1 fly to Tashkent · Day 2 train to Samarkand · Day 3 train to Bukhara · Day 4 train back to Tashkent · Day 5 fly home. Every train is a daytime Afrosiyob, no dawn departures, no overnight sleepers, and you sleep in a different Silk Road city every night but one.
Rules as published by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UAE and the Uzbek e-visa portal, checked 19 September 2026. Print this section, it is the one thing the airline check-in desk will ask about.
Visa-free for up to 30 days per visit. Just a passport valid for six months. Nothing to apply for.

Carry the Emirates ID and a printout of the residence visa page. Refugee travel documents are excluded. If your residence visa is inside its last 90 days, renew first or take the e-visa route below.
Uzbekistan announced 30-day visa-free entry for Indian citizens at the end of August 2026. At the time of writing the effective date had not been published in a decree, so do not fly on the announcement. Two safe routes that work today:
Transit of up to 5 days is visa-free with an onward ticket to a third country.
Uzbekistan is visa-free for over 90 nationalities including the UK, all of the EU, Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Korea, mostly for 30 days. Most other passports get the e-visa online in a few days. Search your passport at e-visa.gov.uz before you book flights.
Every visitor: hotels register you with the authorities automatically. Keep every registration slip they print. You may be asked for them at departure.
Three airlines fly non-stop from DXB to Tashkent every day, about 3 hours in the air. Uzbekistan is one hour ahead of Dubai. The plan below uses flydubai's morning outbound and afternoon return, which are the times that make the trains work. Check exact times for your date, they shift by up to an hour between summer and winter timetables.

Return fares from about AED 1,050 on flydubai when booked 4 to 6 weeks ahead. Add checked baggage on the low-cost carriers, you will come home with bread, ceramics and a suzani.
Uzbekistan's Afrosiyob is a Spanish-built Talgo running at 250 km/h on the Tashkent to Bukhara line. It turns a 6-hour drive into a 2-hour ride with a cafe car. Never drive between these cities when a train exists, the road is slow and the train is the experience.

Plan A below is built around trains and flights that exist every day of the week, so it works whatever dates you pick. Times are local. Everything marked book should be reserved before you leave Dubai.
If your Day 5 falls on a Tuesday or Friday when flydubai's Samarkand flight runs, reverse the order and skip the return to Tashkent: Day 1 fly to Tashkent (Night 1 Tashkent) · Day 2 Afrosiyob 766 07:30 direct to Bukhara 11:39 (Night 2 Bukhara) · Day 3 Bukhara all day (Night 3 Bukhara) · Day 4 Afrosiyob 765 16:22 to Samarkand about 18:20, Registan at night (Night 4 Samarkand) · Day 5 Shah-i-Zinda, Registan, Siyob, then the late-evening FZ 770 to Dubai. You gain a full extra day in Bukhara and lose the Tashkent morning. Confirm the Samarkand flight is operating for your date before you build around it, it is seasonal.

Three madrasas facing a single square: Ulugh Beg (1420), Sher-Dor with its tiger mosaics, and Tilya-Kori with a gold-leaf mosque inside. This is the reason people fly to Uzbekistan.
Tip. Come twice: mid-morning for the tilework, then after dark for the light show (usually from about 20:00). Tickets are cash at the booth on the west side.
A narrow street of eleven mausoleums climbing a hill, every wall covered in the deepest blue tile in Central Asia. It is a working pilgrimage site, so dress modestly.
Tip. Be at the gate at 08:00 before the tour buses. The best light on the tiles is early morning.
The tomb of Timur (Tamerlane) under a ribbed turquoise dome. The interior is gold on blue and photographs beautifully at dusk when the lamps come on.
Tip. Visit at 18:00 to 19:00, then walk 10 minutes to Registan for the night show.
Timur's giant congregational mosque, built in five years after his India campaign and so large it began to crumble almost immediately. The scale is the point.
Tip. Pair it with Siyob Bazaar next door and the Bibikhanum Teahouse across the road.
Samarkand's main market: pyramids of dried apricots, walnuts, halva, spices, and the famous Samarkand non bread stamped with patterns. The best souvenirs on the trip cost a few dollars here.
Tip. Bread from Samarkand keeps for weeks. Buy it on the last morning and carry it home.
What remains of a 15th century observatory where Ulugh Beg measured the year to within a minute. The underground arc of the sextant is still in the ground.
Tip. It is 3 km north of Shah-i-Zinda. Take a Yandex taxi, 15 minutes, a couple of dollars.
A 47 m brick minaret from 1127 that Genghis Khan spared. The mosque courtyard beside it holds 10,000 people and the Mir-i-Arab madrasa faces it across the square.
Tip. Sunset from the square is the photo of the trip. The mosque closes around 18:00.
A 400 year old pond ringed by mulberry trees, two madrasas and a khanaka. The whole old town radiates from here, and every evening the city sits by the water.
Tip. Eat dinner at the pond on your first evening. Prices are tourist-level but the setting earns it.
The emirs' fortress, a walled city on a mound occupied for 1,500 years. Inside are the throne room, mosque, stables and small museums.
Tip. Go early, it is fully exposed to the sun. The view from the ramparts across to Bolo Hauz is the reward.
The emir's Friday mosque opposite the Ark, with twenty carved wooden columns reflected in its own pond. Small, wooden and unexpectedly delicate after the brick fortress.
Tip. Walk here straight from the Ark, it is across the road.
Three surviving covered bazaars from the 16th century: Toqi Zargaron (jewellers), Toqi Telpak Furushon (hat sellers) and Toqi Sarrofon (money changers). Today they sell suzani embroidery, knives, ceramics and hats.
Tip. Bargain gently. Real hand-stitched suzani starts around USD 40 for a cushion cover.
A tiny 1807 gatehouse with four turquoise-capped towers, hidden in a residential lane east of Lyabi-Hauz. It looks like nothing else in the country.
Tip. Ten minutes on foot from Lyabi-Hauz. Best in late afternoon light.
Bukhara's oldest mosque, built on a Zoroastrian temple, sitting 4 m below street level. Now a carpet museum with a beautiful 12th century facade.
Tip. Between Lyabi-Hauz and the trading domes, you will walk past it anyway.
The last emir's summer palace, 4 km north of town: a mix of Russian and Bukharan style, mirrored halls, peacocks in the garden and a harem pool.
Tip. Yandex taxi each way, 10 minutes. Good for the middle of Day 4 when the old town is at its hottest.
Tashkent's main market under a giant turquoise dome: meat hall in the centre, spice and dried fruit stalls around it, tandoor bread and samsa outside. The best cheap lunch in the city.
Tip. Go before 11:00. The samsa stands outside the dome sell out by early afternoon.
The religious heart of Tashkent: madrasas, mosques and the Muyi Muborak library, which holds one of the oldest Qur'an manuscripts in the world, the Uthman Qur'an.
Tip. Ten minutes by taxi from Chorsu. Dress modestly, photography of the Qur'an is not allowed.
The green centre of Soviet-planned Tashkent with the Timur statue, the Hotel Uzbekistan facade and the chiming clock tower. Everything downtown radiates from here.
Tip. Walk it in the evening on Day 1, then dinner nearby.
The most decorated metro in Central Asia, opened in 1977. Kosmonavtlar station is a blue-glass tribute to Soviet cosmonauts, Alisher Navoi is all turquoise domes.
Tip. Ride Kosmonavtlar, Alisher Navoi, Paxtakor and Mustaqillik Maydoni. Photos have been allowed since 2018.
A new park and business district with dancing fountains, a light show and the Humo Arena beside it. This is modern Tashkent, and it is a pleasant place to end an evening.
Tip. Fountain show is after dark, most evenings from about 20:00.
A 2014 mosque in white marble on the canal, calm and photogenic. A good ten-minute stop on the way to or from Tashkent City.
Tip. Best in late afternoon when the marble glows.
Uzbek food is lamb, rice, bread, dumplings and noodles, done with great care. Five dishes carry the cuisine and you should eat all five at least once.
The plov you came for, cooked in five giant kazans at once. Lunch only, arrive before 13:00.
A courtyard restaurant with live music and the full Uzbek menu. Good first-night dinner, around 60,000 to 90,000 som a dish.
Uzbek home cooking done carefully in a modern room. The place to try dishes you will not find at the bazaar.
Turkish-Uzbek grill house, big portions, family friendly, open late. Reliable after a long train day.
Not a restaurant, the best one anyway. Stand-up lunch for 15,000 to 30,000 som.
