On Aging — A Quiet Truth
No. 01  ·  for senior friends

How life quietly recedes, in three stages.

After fifty-eight, the world steps back from you in layers — first your work, then your circle, then your kin. It is not cruelty. It is the law of balance. Knowing the shape of it makes the walking lighter.

Stage One · ages 58 – 62 The Workplace steps away first Titles fade. You become an ordinary person again.
Stage Two · ages 63 – 70 Society drifts next Old colleagues disappear. The new generation does not know your name.

Stage Three · ages 70+ Family grows distant A visit is a sign of love. Their lives are busy — let them be.
Final Stage · after 77 The Earth prepares to release The curtain falls. This is the law of balance — no one is exempt.
Stage One
5862
the office lets go

No matter how senior you were, you are now an ordinary person.

The workplace gradually steps back. The title goes with the chair. Carry no pride from the office into the rest of your life.

Do not hold on to the badge of your old position.
Stage Two
6370
the room thins out

Society moves on. The new generation does not know you — and that is fine.

Old colleagues disappear. Work-friends thin. Walk into your old workplace and few will recognise the face.

Don't say “I was there too.” Be here, now, instead.
Stage Three
70+
the house grows quiet

Family begins to drift. Mostly it is you and your spouse — or only you.

Children and grandchildren have their own lives. When they visit, take it as love. When they don't, do not measure it against blame.

A visit is a kindness, not a debt being repaid.
After 77 · The Final Recession

And then, even the earth grows ready to let you go.

This is the law of balance of power of nature. No one is saved from it. The curtain of life can fall at any moment — and that is the regular shape of a life, not a tragedy or a failure.

Everyone has walked this path · The rest will walk it too

While the body still holds — live.

Eat the food you love. Do the work that pleases you. Play. Call old friends and let the memory of them rise up again.

This life comes only once. Spend it being happy.

Yours truly Writing this from inside it — somewhere between stage one and stage two.

And the medicine looks like this.

Old friends · refreshed memories · 2026
Eat well.
Cook the food that pleases you. Share it with someone if you can.
Work joyfully.
Do the small thing — the garden, the wood, the page — that still pulls you.
Call your friends.
Refresh old memories. Hearing a voice you knew at thirty is its own medicine.
Be happy.
This life comes only once. The rest is law, not punishment.
